Designing a kitchen and picking its style takes a lot of determination and dedication. That’s why we are here to show you some of the best kitchen trends and show you the different variations and reasons why you should choose them. Not only that, but we will go over the various pros and cons of each trend or style, and this will help you show you what would look best in your kitchen.

Open Shelving

Over the last few years, the concept of glass floating shelves has been trending. It gives you the appearance of glass shelves as if the dishes or the decor sitting on the shelves are floating. These glass shelves give off a very modern and elegant look to the kitchen, and if you don’t mind dusting or wiping down the glass every couple of days, it might be the right fit for you!

Another great style of open shelving is rustic or wooden floating shelves. These shelves are great for homes that have a farm-like style. Adding black iron pipes to hold together the wooden frames can establish the rustic part of the kitchen. Another pro to these shelves is that they’ll be able to match with any different kitchen style and can be used to decorate your kitchen if you are having trouble finding something to tie your kitchen together.

Suspended shelves have also grown to be popular because of their very unique and different styles. Though they are not typical and may not fit everyone’s kitchen, the installation won’t affect your backsplash, so drilling holes in tile or having to lay tile around the floating shelves is not required. Another great pro about these floating shelves is budget friendly. So, if you and your family are trying to renovate your kitchen and you have a limit or a budget on how much you guys are willing to spend, floating shelves are the way to go!

Farmhouse Sink

Another great addition to the kitchen is a large farmhouse sink. Farmhouse sinks usually come in a single basin that can come in different types of material. You can get this farmhouse sinks in stainless steel, copper, fireclay, porcelain, and granite. One of the pros of getting a farmhouse sink is that you get extra capacity. With the width and depth of these sinks, you can soak bigger pots and dishes. It’s also helpful when needing to clean grill grates and stockpots. Another great reason to get a farmhouse sink is just the alluring appearance. These sinks create a great natural focal point, especially when you and your friends and family spend a lot of time in the kitchen. And once again, there are many different options to choose from, and you get to decide what will look best in your kitchen.

Though a farmhouse sink has many benefits and is a fantastic addition to your home, there are some things to consider before deciding to get one. First, you need to remember that these apron sinks take up a lot of space. It can take away a lot of countertop space and under-sink storage if you don’t have that much kitchen space, to begin with. And because these sinks have a heavier build, there may be complications with the install, but it also depends on the build itself. But if you are installing the sink to your existing cabinetry, you might need to make some modifications to support the extra weight of the sink. Other than the weight of the sink and the amount of space it’ll take up, you shouldn’t worry about any other problems with the farmhouse sink and should consider purchasing one if doing a kitchen renovation.

Slab Backsplash

If you want your kitchen to scream luxury, we recommend putting in a lovely slab backsplash. Like the farmhouse sink, there are many different options, such as granite, marble, and quartz. These backsplashes are guaranteed to create a richer environment in your kitchen. Once again, if you are to go with a slab backsplash, there are many more pros than cons in getting it installed. If you are not a big fan of cleaning a dirty kitchen, you won’t have to worry about the backsplash! Because it’s a solid surface, just like a countertop, all you must do is wipe down like a countertop. You won’t have to worry about cleaning up crevices or any grout like a brick backsplash, and if you work with grease all the time, you won’t have to be concerned about cleaning the wall all the time since the surface is non-porous and won’t have any dirt build-up. Another great reason to get a slab backsplash is affordability. Though the material for the backsplash can be a little bit more expensive, the process of installing tile can be even more costly. With tile, you’ll have to install each tile piece one by one and make sure they’re cut and placed correctly as well as the fact that this process will take a couple days to do and finish. But if you were to choose to do a slab backsplash, it could be done in a couple of hours or even in an hour it would just depend on how big your wall is and how much of it you wanted.

I would say that the one downside to getting a slab backsplash is that it’s not really super heat resistant, especially if you get a quartz slab which then the highest heat it can resist is 200 Fahrenheit. Quartz can also be affected by UV light and can basically become faded if put in direct sun UV light.

Other than that, and the fact that it might cost you a little more to get a slab backsplash, there are many more upsides to getting a solid slab backsplash.

Green Cabinetry

Green Cabinets. Who doesn’t love them? Many might disagree that green cabinets aren’t meant to be installed into the kitchen, but I disagree. A pop of color is always lovely in the kitchen, even if it’s a simple neutral color or a beautiful olive green. There are so many perks to why you should pick these types of cabinets, from brightening up the kitchen space to reducing anxiety to making it easy to mix and match utensils and other small details in your kitchen.

To begin with, if your kitchen is super tiny and trim and you’re not happy with that and would love to fix that problem but are not willing to spend too much money, green cabinets can help you solve that problem! They could give you the illusion of a much brighter and larger kitchen. It was also proven that green cabinetry can reduce anxiety. Pretty crazy, right? It’s also proven to help with nervousness and depression, so now you can clean the dishes in a more calming environment. And not only are there health benefits to getting these types of cabinets, but since you’re going with this color, decorating and matching will be a lot easier since it can complement the color green. You can do a black countertop with gold accents or even white countertops and silver accents. The possibilities are endless! Another great reason why you should get green cabinets is there really are no cons about getting them in the first place.

Furniture Built In

While we’re still on the topic of cabinets, one of the biggest trends that we just love is furniture built in. Built-in furniture is always lovely when needing more space in your home. If you’re a newlywed couple looking for ways to get extra storage space, built-in furniture is definitely for you! Just like the green cabinetry, the built-in can also bring a sense of relaxation and comfort, and you can utilize the different small nooks and crannies in your home. One of the disadvantages of built-in furniture is that it cannot be moved once you put it in. But, once again, there are way more advantages than disadvantages for furniture being built in.
